Fletcher Oklahoma Notes is an independent journal for people who live on, work with or simply enjoy the land around Fletcher and the rest of Southwest Oklahoma. We write plain-English explainers on property lines and land surveys, practical notes on gardening in a hot, windy prairie climate, and honest guides to the refuges, lakes, museums and shows that make a good day out around Lawton and the Wichita Mountains.
Where we write from
Fletcher is a small town in Comanche County (ZIP 73541) and part of the Lawton Metropolitan Statistical Area; its population was 1,204 at the 2020 census. From here the Wichita Mountains are a short drive away. Those granite hills are roughly 500 million years old, and Mount Scott rises to 2,464 feet inside the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. That landscape, together with the wind, the clay and the storms that come with it, shapes almost everything we write about.

How we work
We stick to facts we can check against public sources such as refuge, city and museum websites, and we say so when something changes, for example when a building closes for repairs. Opening times, fees and event schedules change often, so we always suggest checking a venue's own website before you travel.
